Warwick-based design and engineering consultancy <a target="_blank" href="https://www.callumdesigns.com">CALLUM</a> has partnered with green-tech company <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ottanstudio.com">Ottan</a> to conduct a study that promotes the principles of circular economy in the automotive industry. The research showed that coffee grounds, eggshells, red lentils, walnuts, and rice are suitable materials for a car interior in 2030.The research team used the interior of a retromod Porsche 911 as a basis for the study and found that eggshells can be mixed with resin to create a smooth, opaque material that could replace traditional window switch coverings. For lamp covers or illuminated buttons, the team used expired rice or lentils to create a translucent material. Finally, the team proved that coffee grounds are an excellent flame-retardant alternative that could replace traditional decorative plastics such as dashboard inserts.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.callumdesigns.com">CALLUM&#039;s</a> research goes beyond food and found that ocean plastic waste would be a perfect substitute for durable fabrics, seat centers, or reinforcements.
